Phase 3 - Distribute Value

Generating Traffic

There are 3 aspects in any business. Sales, Offer, Traffic. Without any one of these aspects nailed properly, your business will not work properly. Traffic is how you distribute your product and how you bring eyeballs to your content.

Here are some ways to find traffic to your digital products:

Defining your target audience:

The first step in finding traffic for your digital products is to clearly define who you are trying to reach. This will help you tailor your marketing efforts and create content that resonates with your audience.

This is the absolute base minimum for all the other strategies we will be talking about. When you create content, write articles, build a website or run paid ads, you need to have the ideal customer in mind that you are targeting. Create content with a strategy in mind.

Building a website:

Having a professional website is essential for promoting your digital products. Building just a website isn't enough. You need to optimise it for SEO.

Search engine optimization (SEO):

Optimizing your website and content for search engines can help increase visibility and drive traffic to your product.

Here are some SEO tips:

  1. Site load speed test (2-4s)
  2. SSL Certificate
  3. Custom 404 Page
  4. Submit the site to google search console
  5. One Page SEO - Titles, meta description, keywords, urls

Additionally, building backlinks from reputable sites can also help increase your website's search engine rankings and drive more organic traffic.

Paid advertising:

In addition to organic traffic, paid advertising can be a powerful way to reach potential customers and drive traffic to your digital products. We will cover different paid advertising options and how to create effective ad campaigns.

Organic Traffic

Organic traffic is considered the best type of traffic because it is free and comes from users finding your website through a search engine or social media, rather than through paid advertising.

Building organic traffic involves optimizing your website for search engines and creating valuable content that attracts visitors to your site.

The second way is to build a brand.

Why?

Simple. It's a reliable flow of traffic. But, it takes a long time. In fact, it takes years. But, if you are here for the long run, this shouldn't be a problem.

At the start, you will need to do more. Because paid traffic will beat organic traffic but after your brand is strong, organic traffic will increase and it will be 10x, 100x what paid traffic can bring in.

So, when you start, do both. Do paid traffic while building a brand. Slowly, your brand (social media) will bring in much more traffic than organic traffic. After that you can focus on organic traffic.

Last but not least, I want you to understand this ↓

If you are struggling to make a living from your brand, you either have an offer or a traffic problem (as JK Molina says). If you are converting the people who visit your website to customers with a conversion rate of 5+%, then you need to increase the traffic you send there.

And vice versa.

Remember that the amount of time you spend on your business is not important. It is about how much impact that time spent has on your business directly and indirectly.

Attention & Engagement Psychology

Cognitive biases/heuristics is an interesting topic that I encourage all of you to study more on. They are mainly psychological effects.

Here are 5 that you can use in your brand ↓

1. Halo Effect

The Halo effect is the first impression your “product” makes with the user.

When I say “product”, this could mean your website, content, design identity, your free or paid products.

Most of people’s interactions with your brand are formed on the basis of their first impression of you.

2. Serial Position Effect

The First and Last parts will be the most remembered by people.

This psychological effect is often seen throughout many fields from business, education, videos.

And this effect can be utilized in your content and products.

The starting and ending should be made to give a lasting impression on your customers.

3. Recency Effect

People believe/trust the most recent content/entity - which is why you need to post more content due to a higher chance of people seeing your content at an earlier time.

4. Mere Exposure Effect

Show up to your customers as many times as possible.

This goes hand in hand with the previous cognitive bias.

There’s a study that shows that you need to have atleast 21 touchpoints with your customers for them to have a long-lasting impression of you.

5. Loss Aversion Effect

People hate missing out on things.

Utilize scarcity in your offers but remember to not use fake scarcity. Fake scarcity only ruins your brand’s reputation.

Make a promise and follow up on it.

Copywriting Frameworks (AIDA/PASTOR)

Copywriting is text or words written with the sole purpose of persuading the reader to perform a certain action. In essence, it is just persuasive writing.

It is used to make ads, create content and pretty much everything you read on the internet.

But first of all, you need to understand the importance of writing.

There are a few techniques used in copywriting:

AIDA

A - Attention

I - Interest

D - Desire

A - Action

AIDA is used by many people to hook people. One example is Instagram posts. The goal of this framework is to grab the attention of your readers, create interest, and stimulate desire through trust (to change "I like it" to "I want it”) Last but not least is Action which is to provide a call to action which makes the reader want to perform the desired outcome such as to buy your product.

However, the AIDA framework takes time to master but it does bring you one step closer to your desired goal.

Lets go through one more copywriting framework.

PASTOR

P - Problem

A - Amplify

S - Story and Solution

T - Transformation and Testimonials

O - Offer

R - Response

The PASTOR  framework is a much more ideal framework to follow for your website or landing page. It directly translates for landing pages unlike AIDA which can be used for almost anything and is hard to implement in websites.

P - Problem:

Identify the problem for your ideal customers and bring light to it on your website. This is usually the first thing you address.

A - Amplify:

Amplify the problem. Make the reader feel that the problem is causing them a lot and solving the problem with immediate action is very important.

S - Story and Solution:

Provide the readers with a story of how you solved that exact problem with your “unique mechanism” and make them think that this “unique mechanism” of yours is the solution to their problem.

T - Transformation and Testimonials:

Now, you would need to provide testimonials to build trust with your readers.

O - Offer:

It is now time to make the offer and tell them about the price and the benefits (not features) that they would see if they get your product.

R - Response:

Ask the readers for their response. Will they buy it or not? Give them more incentive and reasons to buy your product now.

But frameworks alone won’t make you a master copywriter. It takes time and practice to become a skilled copywriter.

To become a skilled copywriter, it's important to understand who your target audience is, what they want, and what their pain points are. This knowledge will help you craft copy that speaks directly to them and addresses their needs. Conducting market research and creating buyer personas can help you better understand your audience. (as you learnt in the past few lessons)

Customer Awareness Level

Imagine this:

You are in a desert with 10 litres of water.

Someone comes to you for water because he saw you drinking it.

You give him a small cup. Enough to last a few seconds. But not enough to quench his thirst fully.

He still wants more water.

You show him 2 more cups and tell him that you’ll sell them for $10.

The man decided to buy the 2 cups. Why?

→ He’s still thirsty ⇒ Problem aware

→ He knows you have real water ⇒ Value aware

→ He knows you have more water ⇒ Solution aware

Make your potential customers aware of these 3 levels.

Tip: Make your free products better than other people’s paid products.

It will let your potential customers know about your expertise.

Systemization

Systems thinking

Systems thinking is an approach that emphasizes the interconnectedness of various components within a larger system. It involves considering the relationships, patterns, and feedback loops that drive the behavior of the entire system. Instead of analyzing isolated elements, systems thinking aims to comprehend the holistic view.

Systems thinking is a way of making sense of the world by looking at it as a whole rather than by splitting it down into its parts.

This is just a very brief introduction of what System Thinking.

Building systems is easily the number one reason for most entrepreneurs’ success. Systems help you automate, speed up your workflow and just generally help you in the process of content creation.

When we first started, it is safe to say that we were not organised and everything was all over the place. But, once we started building systems, it all came together.

Here are 2 systems I would recommend:

Content Creation System

A content creation system can be used for Instagram. When you do not have your own pre-made templates, it will take a much longer time to create those posts.

For example, our post creation time have decreased by about 3 times because we made custom-made templates for us to use whenever we need to make an Instagram post.

You could design these templates on platforms like Figma, Sketch or Lunacy.

Automating Workflow

Systems are one way of automating your workflow.

When you are trying to build a one-person business and reduce reliance on other humans, you need to learn how to automate your workflow.

There a few ways of automating your workflow.

  1. Using templates
  2. Repurposing Content
  3. Using AI

Automation + AI tools

I also wanted to add in some automation + AI tools that I use for my workflow.

With AI on the rise, it changed the way we work and if we do not adapt to it, we’ll be losing out.

Here’s my tech stack (for automation):

And that’s the end of generating traffic.
